Clients ask us this every few weeks. Their exam confirmation says Meazure Learning, they have never seen the name before, and they want to know whether it changes anything for them. It does not. Meazure Learning is the company that owns ProctorU, and ProctorU is the platform we have been working against since years before it had that name.
If you have been searching for how to cheat on ProctorU, this page covers what the platform actually checks, what the rebrand did and did not change, and where our own guides document the whole process step by step.
Is Meazure Learning the same as ProctorU
Yes, in the way that matters to you. Meazure Learning is the parent company. ProctorU is the proctoring product underneath it. Same software, same interface, same proctors, same check-in flow.
If your school or testing body says your exam is proctored by Meazure Learning, you are sitting a ProctorU session.
What changed in the rebrand and what did not
ProctorU and Yardstick Assessment Strategies merged in January 2020, forming Meazure Learning as the parent company, backed by more than $30 million in growth capital led by Eastside Partners. The merger was announced publicly at the time and covered by EdSurge.
On 30 September 2021 the company announced it would fold both brands into one name. Its own notice is explicit that the product did not change:
the platform will retain the ProctorU brand presence in both name and logo
The same notice confirms the platform, the user interface, the staff and the service lines all stayed as they were. Marketing content moved from proctoru.com to meazurelearning.com in February 2022, and proctoru.com still resolves today with a banner reading "ProctorU is now Meazure Learning!". Some organisations split the difference and write it as ProctorU by Meazure Learning.
So this was a corporate renaming, not a new proctoring system. Nothing about how the exam is watched changed on the day the press release went out.
Is the ProctorU proctor a real person
On its live service, yes. Meazure Learning's own rebrand notice lists the ProctorU service lines as Live+, Review+ and Record+. Live+ puts a human being on the other end who checks your ID, walks you through the room scan, and stays connected for the session.
That is worth understanding rather than fearing. A live proctor is a person following a script, working a queue, and dealing with the same flaky software you are.
Does ProctorU really watch you
During a live session, yes, continuously. That is the product.
What our own sessions have shown repeatedly is that the watching is far less smooth than the marketing suggests. In one GRE session that ran to eight hours, the platform displayed the wrong countdown time and the client's camera failed outright, forcing a last-minute external camera. In another, the countdown timer was simply inaccurate. In a third, the client's computer shut off mid-test and lost connection entirely, and the official 340 still arrived on schedule about a week later.
Those are not edge cases we went looking for. They are what routine sessions look like.
Can ProctorU detect phones
This is the question people get most backwards, because current sessions increasingly require you to use a phone.
The dual-camera check has your phone act as a second, side-facing camera for the whole exam. You scan an on-screen QR code to join it, then position it to show your screen, your full keyboard, both hands and the side of your face. It has to be charged, on Do Not Disturb, in landscape, on a stable stand. Our GRE at-home guide documents this setup in detail with real customer screenshots, and ETS at-home exams now require a secondary camera.
So the phone is not the contraband. It is part of the required equipment, and getting its height and angle right on the first attempt is a setup problem we solve with clients before test day.
Does ProctorU track eye movement
We are not going to invent specifics about what runs inside their software, and you should be sceptical of any service that claims to know.
What we can tell you is what the session actually involves: a live person watching your webcam feed, and on dual-camera sessions a second angle showing your face from the side along with your hands and screen. Plan around what is observably in frame. That is what our setup work with clients is for, and it is why the second camera's position gets so much attention in our guides.
How ProctorU cheating actually works
We do not sell a trick. We sit the exam.
The clearest picture of how that works is in the guides themselves, several of which still carry ProctorU in their URLs because they were written when that was the only name anyone used:
- The GRE at-home walkthrough, with more than fifty screenshots from real customers covering every step from first message to official scores, including the current dual-camera check
- The online LSAT guide, which documents the classic ProctorU flow in detail
- The TOEFL Home Edition walkthrough
- A university calculus final taken under ProctorU, scored above 90, for a client in Los Angeles who came back for more
That last one matters more than it looks. It was not a standardised test. The capability is the platform, not any one exam, which is exactly why a change of company name does not affect it.
What happens if you get caught
Honest answer: we are not going to promise you that nothing can ever go wrong, and anyone who does is selling something.
What we can point at is the record. Every case study on this site is published with its score report, and the full set is public. The 340 that survived a mid-test computer shutdown is instructive precisely because the client expected the score to be cancelled and it was not.
Preparation is the part that is actually in your control, and it is where most of our work with a client happens before test day.
Pay someone to take your ProctorU exam
If your exam is proctored by ProctorU, or by Meazure Learning, which is the same thing, we have almost certainly done it before.
See the GRE cheating service, the TOEFL service, or read how to pay someone to take the GRE for you. If you are weighing us against other options first, the scams page is worth ten minutes of your time.
The name on your confirmation email changed in 2021. The system behind it did not, and we were working against it well before then.
