What is the GRE (2026 format)?
The GRE General Test is a computer-based, section-adaptive admissions exam. Since 2023 it runs in a shorter format of about 1 hour 58 minutes, scored 260–340 (combined Verbal + Quant), with a $220 fee and scores valid for 5 years. It has three parts:
- Verbal Reasoning (130–170): reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence.
- Quantitative Reasoning (130–170): arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.
- Analytical Writing (AWA) (0–6): one “Analyze an Argument” essay.
