ProctorU and Yardstick Assessment Strategies merged in January 2020 to form Meazure Learning, and on 30 September 2021 the company announced it would fold both brands into the one name. Its own notice was explicit that the platform, the interface and the staff stayed as they were. proctoru.com still resolves today with a banner reading "ProctorU is now Meazure Learning". So if your school or testing body says your exam is proctored by Meazure Learning, you are sitting a ProctorU session, and nothing on this page changes.

A live ProctorU session is watched by a real person, not only by software. Before the exam the proctor photographs your face and your government ID, and has you pan your webcam around the room, including the desk surface and the wall behind the screen. During the exam they see your webcam feed and your shared screen, and the session records both. The check-in also closes other applications, blocks a second monitor, and on many exams now asks for a phone placed to the side as a second camera.

The things that get sessions stopped are consistent: leaving the camera frame, a second person or voice in the room, a phone or second screen in view, looking off-screen for long stretches, or a VPN or virtual machine the system flags. In record-and-review, the session is captured and a reviewer, sometimes assisted by automated flagging, watches it afterward and reports anything that looks off. The at-home GRE and TOEFL Home Edition use live proctoring; some course exams use review.

The distinction matters because a review pass leans on automated flags: repeated glances in one direction, a second face detected, audio that sounds like another voice, or a background process the software noticed.
