Taking the TOEFL in the Middle East

The Middle East is a region where most graduate study abroad runs on government and employer scholarships, and the TOEFL turns up here for the same reason it does everywhere else: it stands between a candidate and university admission and visa applications in English-speaking countries.

Not every client here is applying to a university. In March 2026 we published a note about clients in Dubai, Iran, Qatar and Iraq for whom a qualifying score was part of securing a visa and leaving a war zone. That is not the usual reason someone books a proxy test taker, and it is worth saying plainly that the stakes in this region are sometimes not academic at all.

How the TOEFL is run in the Middle East

The TOEFL is under two hours of Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, and the version we handle is TOEFL iBT Home Edition, watched by ProctorU proctors. Because it runs on your own machine rather than in a hall, where you are sitting matters only for scheduling.

Registration still needs a government photo ID, shown to the proctor on camera, so the details on your booking have to match the documents you hold.

What TOEFL score to aim for

The TOEFL is scored from 0 to 120. Most of our the Middle East clients are applying to institutions like several international branch campuses in the Gulf for scholarship applications for study abroad, where anything at or above 100 is competitive, and that is the range we work to.
