Taking the TOEFL in China

China is the largest single source of international students worldwide, and the TOEFL turns up here for the same reason it does everywhere else: it stands between a candidate and university admission and visa applications in English-speaking countries.

How the TOEFL is run in China

The TOEFL is under two hours of Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, and the version we handle is TOEFL iBT Home Edition, watched by ProctorU proctors. Because it runs on your own machine rather than in a hall, where you are sitting matters only for scheduling.

Registration still needs a government photo ID, shown to the proctor on camera, so the details on your booking have to match the documents you hold.

What TOEFL score to aim for

The TOEFL is scored from 0 to 120. Most of our China clients are applying to institutions like Peking University, Tsinghua University and Fudan University for admissions to universities in the United States and Europe, where anything at or above 100 is competitive, and that is the range we work to.
