New Zealand is a country with very few physical test seats and a heavy reliance on at-home testing, and the TOEFL turns up here for the same reason it does everywhere else: it stands between a candidate and university admission and visa applications in English-speaking countries.

How the TOEFL is run in New Zealand

The TOEFL is under two hours of Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, and the version we handle is TOEFL iBT Home Edition, watched by ProctorU proctors. Because it runs on your own machine rather than in a hall, where you are sitting matters only for scheduling.

That matters more in New Zealand than in most places, since physical seats here are limited and a rescheduled booking can cost weeks. The at-home format sidesteps the queue entirely.

Registration still needs a government photo ID, shown to the proctor on camera, so the details on your booking have to match the documents you hold.

What TOEFL score to aim for
