Taking the GRE in Japan

Japan is a country whose applicants mostly test for programmes abroad rather than at home, and the GRE turns up here for the same reason it does everywhere else: it stands between a candidate and graduate school admission, mostly in the United States and Canada.

How the GRE is run in Japan

The GRE is just under two hours of Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing, and the version we handle is GRE General Test at home, watched by ETS-contracted human proctors over ProctorU. Because it runs on your own machine rather than in a hall, where you are sitting matters only for scheduling.

Registration still needs a government photo ID whose name matches the registration exactly, so the details on your booking have to match the documents you hold.

What GRE score to aim for

The GRE is scored from 260 to 340. Most of our Japan clients are applying to institutions like the University of Tokyo and Waseda University for MBA and graduate admissions abroad, where anything at or above 325 is competitive, and that is the range we work to.
