How to Cheat on Examity (GMAT Online): What It Checks, and How We Handle It

Examity is a remote proctoring provider that GMAC uses for the online GMAT. In practice you meet it as a system check followed by live proctoring: it verifies your machine and connection, runs an identity and environment check, and then watches the session. If your computer cannot get past the Examity system check, that is the single most common thing that derails an online GMAT, which is why the setup is done before the day rather than on it.

The checks are the familiar live-proctoring set applied to the GMAT Online: identity confirmation, a look around the room, other applications closed, no second person, no phone or extra screen within reach, and your face in frame throughout. GMAC's own rules for the online exam add the details, such as the whiteboard handling and the ban on leaving the room outside a permitted break. The single most common thing that derails an online GMAT is not the proctor, it is the Examity system check. If your computer cannot get past it, the exam does not start. An underpowered or misconfigured machine, a slow or unstable connection, or missing admin rights on the computer will all stop you at this step or drop you partway through. GMAC's own advice is to buy or borrow a different computer if you cannot pass the check.

That is exactly the part we take off your plate. Before the day we set up the machine, install what is needed, and run the Examity system check in the same conditions you will actually sit the exam in, so it is already passing well before check-in. The day itself is then about coordination, not troubleshooting, which is the difference between a sitting that runs and one that stalls at the first screen.

On top of the standard proctoring, GMAC's own rules for the online exam set the specifics: no one else may enter the room, you may only leave during a permitted break, no scratch paper or note-taking outside the allowed whiteboard, phones, headphones and notebooks kept out of reach, and only water in a clear container. Where a physical whiteboard is used it has to be shown to the camera before and wiped and shown again after. These are the rules the live proctor is confirming at the start, and they are the same ones our process is built around.

You tell us your target and location, we agree a date, and you register and send the confirmation so the time zone is right. Before the day we set up your machine, install what is needed and run the Examity system check so it is already passing, then on the day we connect about an hour early for last-minute coordination. The exam is handled from there, and the balance is due only after your result is confirmed. As with every exam we take, we agree a realistic target rather than a jump that would invite a second look.

The GMAT can be sat online under Examity or in person at a test center, and the two are different jobs. The online exam puts the whole environment in your hands: your computer, your room, your connection, all watched through Examity. That is convenient, and it is also where the system check and the live proctoring apply. The test-center GMAT moves the setting to Pearson's own room and equipment, with the control points there rather than at your desk.
