Real Reviews vs Fake Reviews: How to Tell
Many customers ask us: "How do you tell if a review is real or fake?"
Actually, real reviews often look fake.
Why Do Real Reviews Look Fake?
- Customers are lazy — not surprising, considering most of our customers are too lazy to study themselves 🤣. Their comments are so succinct they look almost fake.
- AI-assisted — when asked for reviews, customers often use AI to help write them, so the results look AI-generated even though they're from real users.
- New accounts — most customers don't have a Trustpilot account and have to register just to leave a review. So you see reviews from newly created accounts.
- Throwaways — many don't want to use their real Reddit accounts, so they use throwaways. This is understandable.
How to Identify Real Reviews?
Check if there's a full-blown case study or success story that ends in a review (that may still look fake).
The real customer journey: first contact → exam details → score achieved → review left. This complete trail is the best proof of authenticity.
